Anushka Shetty was born to Prafulla and A.N. Vittal Shetty in Mangalore as sweety Shetty in 1981. She started her career as Yoga teacher. She left her job after she signed for Telugu film titled Super. Later she paired with Ravi Teja for movie titled Vikramarkudu.
It went on a big hit and got her recognition .She got acclaims for her acting in vedam and Arundathi. Her Tamil film singam which was actor surya's 25th film became a huge hit and she became one of the leading actresses in south India. She is going to potray Rani Rudrama Devi character in next release.

As of December 2014, she was working on two magna opera,firstly Gunashekar 's bilingual Rudhramadevi, in which she portrays the titular role of Kakatiya dynasty queen Rudrama Devi opposite Rana Daggubati for the first time in her career and second collabaration with Allu Arjun ,which is completed post productions and slated to release in 2015 .Secondly she is working on S. S. Rajamouli's trilingual Baahubali with Prabhas,Rana Daggubati and Tamannaah Bhatia ,which is reported to be the most costliest Telugu film and planned to release in two parts. ,She recently sign again perfomance oriented film titled as Size Zero .

She reprised the role she played in Vedam in its Tamil remake, Vaanam (2011), which was also critically acclaimed. Malathi Rangarajan of The Hindu said, "Boldness and daring mark Anushka's role—the actor's eyes effectively convey joy, helplessness, agony and anger."A critic from Sify wrote that "Anushka is outstanding as the commercial sex worker as she is able to bring out a life-like performance."She next starred in A.
